  • What is "store and forward" teledermatology?
"Store and forward" teledermatology is an asynchronous form of healthcare, meaning that the patient and doctor do not need to be in the same place at the same time. History, high-quality images, and other important data are first obtained from the patient and stored on a secure HIPAA-compliant server and then forwarded to the doctor for review. Once the doctor reviews all of the relevant information, they send their recommendations back to the patient. This allows for increased access to healthcare as patients do not need to interrupt their busy life schedules to come to the doctor's office.
  • How are you different from other online dermatology services?
There are several online dermatology services that you can choose from as a patient. Services like "ForHims," "ForHers," "Curology," and "OneMedical" also offer some teledermatology services; however, you are not guaranteed access to a Board-Certified Dermatologist through these platforms. Other platforms often employ nurse practitioners or physician assistants as cost-cutting measures which can potentially compromise the quality of your care. Only a Board-Certified Dermatologist has gone through the extensive and rigorous training to be able to accurately diagnose and treat the wide range of skin illnesses. At No Filter Dermatology, we only employ Board-Certified Dermatologists, so you don't need to worry about whether you are actually receiving care from a qualified medical doctor or not. Other online dermatology services make money by selling patients expensive creams and prescriptions which have no proven efficacy compared to tried and tested formulations, often utilizing "subscriptions" for medicine at a significant markup to keep you paying. At No Filter Dermatology, we pride ourselves on getting patients access to the most affordable, proven, high-quality treatments available, whether that involves working with your prescription drug plan at a retail pharmacy, working with experienced Dermatology compounding pharmacies, or even avoiding prescriptions altogether when they are not necessary. You may end up paying $39 per month for a "subscription" for oral minoxidil at "ForHims," for example, while we can get you the same medication for $5 for a month supply, or $29 for a year supply, resulting in substantial savings. We do not get any kickbacks from pharmacies and make $0 dollars from recommending any products or medications, so you can trust that our recommendations are not biased by hidden financial incentives.
  • Am I eligible to be a patient of No Filter Dermatology?
Currently we are accepting patients from the following states: Indiana Iowa Kentucky Michigan New York North Dakota Ohio If you live in another state and would like to use our services, please let us know as we will consider adding additional states based on patient needs and state medical board requirements for telemedicine.
  • What teledermatology platform do you use?
We are partnered with the MiiSkin app to provide our teledermatology services. You can follow this link to sign up for an account on your phone. If you run into issues during the sign-up process, or if you already have a MiiSkin account, you should be able to log into the app on your phone and go to the profile page then add office code NFD1 to gain access to our services. • Do you accept minors as patients?
Yes we do. As long as the patient's parent signs up for an account and gives consent for the minor patient to receive treatment, we are happy to help minors with their skin concerns.
  • Do you take insurance?
We do not take insurance for virtual visits. You can pay using your credit or debit card, Health Savings Account (HSA), Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • How much does a virtual visit cost?
We currently charge $59 dollars for new patients, $49 for established patients, and $39 for simple prescription renewal virtual visits - these prices are usually less than most insurance's copay to see a specialist.
  • How many conditions can I address per virtual visit?
Each virtual visit will be used to address one condition whether it be acne, eczema, hair loss, or something else. Separate visits can be scheduled to address each individual condition to allow our dermatologists to give their full attention to your concerns.
  • Do I need to do a telephone or video visit?
Your dermatologist will reach out to you via our secure messaging system if they require additional information or new photos. You do not need to schedule a telephone or video visit.
  • How long does it take to get the doctor's recommendations?
Typically patients will receive recommendations within 48 business hours.
  • What happens if my doctor recommends a biopsy?
As we do not currently have any in-person services, our practice cannot perform a biopsy for you. Our dermatologists will do their best to recommend a local provider for a biopsy, but if they are unable they may recommend that you reach out to your primary care provider for more information.
  • How do I get my prescription?
There are multiple options for obtaining prescriptions. If you would like to use your prescription drug insurance to pay for your prescription, please provide us with your local pharmacy information when submitting your information. Please see this page for information about drug pricing and discount pharmacies. Additionally, we are able to send prescriptions to a few pharmacies that will allow you to pay a modest cash-based rate and ship the medications directly to you. These pharmacies typically require you to sign up on their own stand-alone website. We do not receive any pay incentives for sending patients to these pharmacies, but do believe they are excellent cost-effective resources for patients based on many years of practice.
  • How long will it take to receive my prescription?
This will depend on which pharmacy you opt to use. Once your prescription has been sent in to the pharmacy, we recommend that you reach out to the individual pharmacy to find out how long it will take to fill the prescription. Most retail pharmacies will fill a prescription within 24 hours as long as the medication is not on back order. Online pharmacies may take up to a few weeks for prescription delivery depending on shipment method.
